BELLAMY'S.
THE QUESTION OF ITS LICENSE. A VOTE WANTED. (special to "the press.") WELLINGTON, August 29. Whether or not Bellamy's, at the House of Representatives, should retain its license was a question raised this evening by Mr Isitt. Early in the day a member complained that Parliamentarians had no choice of whisky in Bellamy s. It matters very little- what brand ot whisky is supplied," commented Mr Isitt some hours later. "It always seems to mo that all brands of whisky have the samo undesirable eiicct when members swallow it. 'mere is a question 1 want to put to tho Minister,' he continued. "What about tho right or Parliament to vote in the issuo of a license to Bellamy's? How long is it sineo wo have liad an opportunity to voto as to whether Bellamy's should do without it or retain it? What with ehorfc sessions and other things wo have been robbed of the opportunity of voting on the question to do away with an institution which will never work for the Rood of this House." He hoped to have, ho added, tho sympathy of tho Prime Minister. -As a matter of fact ho believed that when Mr Mnssoy first came to the Houso he voted against the right of Bellamy's to have a license. Mr Masxoy: That was many years ago —too long ago to remember. Mr Isitt said lie hoped the. House would have a chance of voting on tho matter this session. Tho lion. F. M. B. Fisher -said no doubt after nest election the hon. gentkman would have the opportunity he sought. Mr Isitt said he did not regard tho Minister's reply as in any way .satisfactory. It was years since the House had an opportunity to vote on tho question. There might he another brief Ministry, and they would bo robbed again of their chance.
