The two benefit nights given by the management of the local picture show, in aid of the Sumncr i'ootball Club, resulted in v crowded house each night. Then; is apparently going to b<? keen competition for the garden prizes oiferod by tho local Beautifying Associa-v tion. tho entries for which will close oa;< September Ist. The judging will not? take place until December, co that' everyone will have good time to get their pardons in order. Good progress is bring made with H*e lay:n<» of ihe pipes for the- water supply on.Mor.ci's Hpur, RodclifFs, and the work will probably bo completed in the iwxi ton days or ko. A very enjoyable concert was held in the- Redcliffa 'schoolroom on Thursday night, in aid of tho school funds, when tlw«"o was a crowded audience. The Samnor and Redcliffs publio schools have broken up for the spring holidays. A ine.'ting of tho Ssimner Beautifying Association was hold on Thursday night, Mr F. Pratt presiding. The secretary reported that the not proceeds of the lecture iriven by D'\ Chilton were very satisfactory. Tho Christchurch Tramway Board forwarded a cheque for £o as their contribution towards the fencing in of the loop at the tram terminus. Dr. G. Gossot ■was elected to fill a vacancy on th ? * committee. The management of tho local pirture show wrote offering to give a benefit night on bohnlf of the Association, which was rrc?ptf"l w'th thanks. Dr. Lino stated that 3lr Bccfcett. of Riccarton. had sent a lot of dahlia roots for the Association, for which he iras thanked. It was that the Council's attention be drawn to tho unsightly stnt' , of thf inside of the main vrp.r tho junction of Say- i 'i*j:l and Graf ton streets, with a view to having it improved. j
