Angelic W. Raphael's b c Louvois. by Isinglaas— St. Louvair.e

Evidently C-.aganour is showing improved form for a few weeks ago he was beaien by Louvoie in the Two Thousand Guineas at the Isewuiaiket First Spring Meeting. The Desmond co.t's running over a mile and a quaj-ter certainly ioo<_s promising in v;_w of hu engagement in the English Derby, wh.ch will be run on June 4th. (J.aganour was the champion two-year-old iv England last year and won live races, anil finished second once cut of s.x starts. His victories inc-uded the New Stake* at Ascot, The Prince of Wiies Plate at _lork, '.ha Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, and tho il.ddle Fink Plate in which he defeated Sl.or.un and L-uvois. Sunyat was only started tw.ee .ast year, winning the Kempton Park irJreeaers' F.ai Plate and running second to ijouvoia in the Buckenham Stakes at Newma. ket. L-Uvois, who is greatly fancied foi this year's Derby, show«i very promising form iii his two-year-o.d engagements, etart.ng in six racea, warning four of them, running third once, and unplaced once. He opened lire racing career by w.nning tlie ___iedive Plate at iSewuiarket in July but in his next start, in tho Prince of Wales's Stakes, at Goodwo.d, was unexpectedly beaten out ot a piuce in the field ol four. At Newmarket in October he beat his solitary opponent, Sul _at, in the Buckenham Stakes, and at tho a_me Meeting won the iJoecawen Stakes from a field of five, which mc ucled two oi thc«o who had beaten him in the Prince of Wales's Stakes. Louvo.s mede his next appearance in the Midd.e Park l\aie at the Newma: ket Secoi.d October Meeting, and finished tluru behind Craganour and Sbogun, who were regarded aa the two best coits of the season, lie wound up the season by winning tho Dewhuret Plate at INewmarket, having behinri him Sanquhar and Rock -FLnt, the latter of whom was the only horse to beat Craganour as a two-year-old. Commenting on last season's form a wr.ter in the '"Field" said:—'"On the whole of his running, Louvois comes out as well as any other likely three-year-olds of tho coming season, Craganour and Shogun a.oue excepted. Louvora may have bceu uiore suscept.b.o to improvement than either of the colts who finished in front of him for the M.dd.e Park Plate, though this is a v.Ty d.flicu.t matter to dcc.de. On tbe book Louvois should be held safely by both Craganour and Shagun, but there is a somewhat ominous report iv circulation about the first-named of this pair, who, it is rumoured, is suffering from tome sort of lameness. How far this may bo true, or whether there be no t:uth at all in the report one cannot say at present, but Craganour is the most elegant and bloodiiko of the three placed horses in the Middle Park P ate, and as a twc-ycar-old was undoubtedly the best."
