PACIFIC CABLE CHARGES.

A REDUCTION FORESHADOWED

(By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright.)

SYDNEY, May 14

Mr Milward, manager of the Pacific Cable Board, commenting on Canada's recently-announced contract with the Poulsen Wireless Company, foreshadowed a reduction in tho cost of coded cables to Lonuon from 3s to 2s Bd, a saving of fourpence a word. Though he had no information from the London ; office on the matter, if the wireless sys- '■. torn proved efficient and a benefit to the public, tho Pacific Cable Board •would certainly make arrangements with the Poulsen Company to carry its messages to Australia. Whatovor reduction in rates could bo obtained would be passed on to tho public. ■ At tho same time, ho looked tipon wireless communication across the Atlantic as being in a somewhat nebulous state. ..Something would have to bo done to make the system more reliable than it was at present before it | could generally be used for commercial j and Press purposes.
