ACTS OF BRAVERY.
HEROES HONOURED. A meeting of the L'onrt of JWrectors of the Royal Humane bociety of JNew Zealand was held yesterday. Present: Colonel H. Slater (in the chair), Col. Snow, Messrs B. C. iiishop, J. A. Frostick, and E. Smith (secretary). A letter was received trom tho (Jan- \ terbury Centre of tho New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association stating that it viewed with regret the procedure followed by the Koyal iiumane Society in making the recent awards for the attempted rescues at Sumner on December 2bth, 1912. The <Jentre suggested to the Bociety that in the case of similar awards in tho future, the same should be made to the team, and not to individuals. •The Chairman: I think the question of giving to teams is outside our province. It was decided that the letter should be received. It was also decided on the suggestion of Mr Bishop that the secretary should write to the parent Society in England, asking whether they had had similar applications made to them. It was decided that a letter of commendation should be awarded to Konald Napier, aged eleven years, for rescuing Gladys Clarg, aged nine years, from drowning at Port Ahuriri on Jilay 23rd, 3912. A certificate, it was decided, should be awarded "Walter Buchanan, eighteen years of age, for attempting to rescue James Murtagh, ten years of age, from drowning at Purangi, on January Vlst, 1913. The directors resolved to award a bronze medal to Hilda K. Tyson, fourteen years of age, for rescuing Dorothy Oakey, fifteen years of age, and Ulairie Graham, twelve years of age, from drowning, at Nelson, on December 17th 1912.
