An interesting exhibit demonstrating' the extent of the industry carried on by the Zealandia Soap and Candle Co., Ltd., is shown in Mr F. A. Cook's' grocery shop. A feature of the display j is a working model, showing two motor ! waggons conveying Searchlight candles . ana Velvet soap from the factory to ■ the Christchurch stores, and it is sur- . rounded by a tastefully arranged display of the company's wares. The Searchlight candles are made from the finest paraffin wax and stearine, and . in order to ensure a. good article being i produced, the firm has secured the services of experts to supervise the manufacture of these candles. The wax for these? candlgs has to be. imported j and an import duty of Id per'lb is imposed on the wax. In tho case of the com-, pany's pure stearine candles, which, by the way, the experts claim are superior to wax candles, there is no duty to pay, and the "ZeaJite" candles there- : for© lead the way for value, giving .a brilliant light of long duration and being free from smell. The company's, Velvet soap is a high grade article, which has claimed much popularity with tho public. All the company's articles compare more than favourably with the imported goods, and the prices • in every case are cheaper. I
