(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAIt.)

TAIHAPE, May 6

The Prime Minister yesterday visited Ohakune and Ilaetihi, meeting with a cordial reception at both places. Hβ was entertained at luncheon at Itaetihi, and at a banquet at Ohakune.

Speaking at tho latter function, Mr Massey'said ho was convinced the Raetihi railway was a paying proposition. It was urgently needed, and would bo carried out as soon as funds permitted. He referred to tho huge areas of Crown and Native lands' of good quality which were now lying idle. The time had arrived for all land to bo utilised, and the policy of the Government was to bring into use every acre of land capable of being improved. In the North Island 100,000 out of 250,000 acres would be ready for settlement before tho end of June. Mr Massoy foreshadowed Native land legislation during the coming session, overcoming the Nativo difficulty. He spoke in optimistic tones with reference to the finances, and said he hoped in the near future to raise tho limitations for advances to settlers and local bodies, especially the latter in country districts. His speech was received with great applause. Mr Massey left for Wellington by the express.
