WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOAUD.

At the monthly meeting of the Waimakariri Harbour Board, held at Kaiapoi on Monday, there were prej sent: —Messrs B. Lissaman (chairman), f 'L. Edmondsj J. W. Barnard, J. ■ j Wright, T. Keetley, W. The! i Finance Committee recommended that' : a by-law bo made empowering the Board to charge Id per ton on coal and merchandise, and Id per 1000 ft on timber, loaded or unloaded at the public wharf. Adopted. A recommendation to charge Id per • 1000 ft! stacked on the wharf was amended to 1 4d, and tho question of a charge on timber left on the wharf longer than 48 hours was deferred for consideration. Tho need for the charges was explained to be due to the cost of maintaining the wharf, on which recently about £300 had been expended. Attention _ was also called to the need for a sinking fund on the loans raised. The report of the Works Committee in selling surplus timber and rc-eenring part for a fence on property along Charles street was agreed to. At the annual meeting of the Board, the F£me members being present, Mr B. Lissaman was unanimously reelected chairman. Messrs Iveetleyj Wright, Barnard, Mclntosh and Marsden were appointed a Works and Dredge Committee, Messrs Edmonds, Barnard and Chamberlain a Finance Committee, and all the Board to form tho Reserves Committee.
