HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May 6. The following is the High Commissioner's cable, dated London, May 3rd. Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are the average market prices on spot:— Mutton—The market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canterbury 4jjd, North Island 4Jd. Lamb—The market is steady, and holders are firm. Small shipments are expected during the next two weeks. Canterbury 6»d, other than Canterbury
Beef—The market is weak and inactive. Supplies of South American chilled beef are likely to increase. New Zealand hinds 3Jd, fores 3Jd.
Butter—The market is weaker, and has a tendency downward except for choicest. Supplies are increasing. Choicest New Zealand 113s, Danish 117s, Argentine 103s, Australian 107s, Siberian 10!s.
Cheese—The market is steady, with a very demand. Finest New Zealand white 58s 6d, coloured 57s 6d.
Hemp—The market is quiet and rather steadier.. Lower prices are encouraging more business. New Zealand Kood to fair grade £31, fair <rrade £28. For all positions fair current Manila £33, forward shipment May to July £34. .
Wool—The market is steady and prices are well maintained. Holders are firm.
