NEW LIBRARIAN APPOINTED.
Out of 101 applications from all parts of New Zealand and Australia, tho Library Oominitteo of the Canterbury college Board of Governors yesterday atternoon appointed Mr Ernest J. UelJ, lato of London, Librarian of the Christchurch Public Library. Mr Hell takes up his new duties shortly. Mir Bell, who is 2U years of age, has had considerable experience in library work in London. He entered the .Richmond (London) Public Library in ioay, remaining there till 1901. Then he was appointed to the Hammersmith Libraries, and in 1903 to the Fulham Libraries, where he remained till 1911. In that year he resigned his position of senior assistant librarian and caino to Now Zealand, and at the time of his application he was engaged upon cataloguing the library of the Auckland University College. Mr Bell.is stated to hare an excellent knowledge of literature, and to have hnd considerable experience in the selection of books. It was part of his work in London to attend committee meotings on book selection, and also to assist the chief librarian in this important work.
