ALONGSIDE THE WHARF.
Mr E. Moor© said that the Lyttelton Harbour Board intended to-make a.
good harbour display when tho vessel entered the harbour. They" would get all the vessels belonging to tho Board; and were also.trying to got tho local people to .join in. He had no doubt that the display would ho no disgraco to tho port. (Applause). Mr M. J. Miller, retiring Mayor of Lyttelton. said that tho first impressions were tho more lasting, and they should endeavour to make tho most of tho display upon tho vessel's arrival. Ho had groat hopes that the ship would come alongside tho wharf and they would then bo able to have a better display than any other in New Zealand, though Auckland would bo hard to beat.
Mr A. Kayo said that ho believed' that tho vessel would come alongside* , the wharf. (Apnlause). After a briof discussion on the subject, it was decided that any surplus should be devoted to the purchase of shooting prizes for the vessel, and that the Mayor should bo asked to communicate with other centres to assist in raising a substantial sum for this purpose.
Several other matters were referred to including the-engagement of bands, a visit of tho executive committee to tho warship, and tho citizens' ball. It was roported that tho smoke concert to tho men would be ono of tho most successful held in Lytteltcn..
The official party to welcome the warship, meeting her in the harbour, will be tho Mayor of Cliristchnrch, the Mayor of Lyttelton, the chairman of the Lvttelton Harbour Board, and Colonel Cooper of the Coast Defence Forces-
For the proposed motor-mn to Rangiora 100 cars have been offered for use with capacity for 300 passengers, exclusive of drivers.
