Tho Hornby .School Committee- ten-, deml to Mr Imcl Mrs Pi»voll a farewell social on Thursday evening. The function was v.eil attended. Mr Bowbyes (head master) spoko of the high esteem in which the Committee unci teaching staff held Mr Powell, and tho regret they felt in losing him. It gave him very pleasure, on behalf of tho Committee and teaching staff, to hand Mr Powell a ease of pipes. Mr Powell, in his reply, expressed his great appreciation of the work of tho teaching str.ff. Messrs Leslie, WiiUcn, Kinross and George Witty. M.P., also spoke of tho good work done by Mr Powell in the district. Pianoforte solos were given by Miss Squire, and Miss Cooper, songe by Mrs McKeg. Mrs Dnvies, Miss Cooper, Miss Crequor and Mr Truman, and a recitation hv Mr Kinross.
