SUCCESS OF A XEW ZEALAND PARTY.

Hodgkinsoh, of Hawea Flat, stivtiug tlia-t his party had ju.st returned from a successful ascent ot Mount jVspirinj; (9975 feet). Tho party included Mr \V. Robinson, of liawea l'Tat, Mr Mnrrell, of Manapouri, and Mr li. Turner.- Thii is the .second time Mount Aspirin*; has been successfully climbed, :ind the first time by a party of New Z<>alanders. The first ascent vnas made two years' ago by Captain B. Head, \vho had come out from .England for the purpose. The Hodgkinsin's party were three weeks away, and had a lot of bad ■weather to contend with. They made the ascent by a new route along the N.N.W. ridge, reaching the summit on March &th. They -were benighted at SOOO feet in a storm which lasted all night. A dense fog and rain nerb day made the descent difficult. The mountain was photographed up to the summit; also Mt. Tutuko and Mt. Cook.
