An exchange says that the native is a_ well-known Basuto chief named N'Tsicng, whoso horse, Mow. was nominated for several races, but, says the contemporary, "it is felt by many members ot tho club, that a precedent will bo created which may lead to very great difficulties in "the future. Hitherto tho policy of the Turf Club has been extremely strict, coloured trainers for horses innning under their rules 'barred,' also coloured jockeys. Natives and Indians have been allowed to run horses in Natal and at the Cape, but this practice has been 'tabu' in the Transvaal, and it is felt that a great mistake lias been made in departing from the policy enforced for so many years. Moreover, it is pointed out that whilst the nomination of a native has been accepted, the Turf Club will not allow a white woman who owns horses to enter them at their meetings. A number of men- < bers of the Turf Club have openly de- ; dared their intention of resigning :'r ! tho new policy is continued." ° !
