SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK.
Air G. W r . Forbes, M.P-, has received word from the Hon. W r . Fraser, Minister of Public Works, in reply to a request, asking when he intended to fulfil his promise, given in Parliament, to go over the route of tho South Island Alain Trunk line during the recess.
The Minister has replied that he cannot fix the exact elate, as he has to go over Southland this month, and, possibly, the West Coast, and then to Gisboriie in March, and on to Whnngarci and Bay of Islands. Tho visit to Cheviot will not take place until those journeys aro concluded. Ho has promised, when at Cheviot, to nicet a. deputation from the Stonyhurst .settlers about a grant in aid of their proposed bridge over tho Hurunui, and also to view the site.
