MR SAMUEL'S OPINION SOUGHT.

ON DRAFT REOOMMENDATIONa

(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, January 13.

Tho Marconi Committeo has invited the opinion of tho Postmaster-General, Mr H. L. Samuel, npon its draft interim report, recommending th© immediate purchase of sites for wireless stations for an Imperial chain, and suggesting that the Govcrnmentfclopartment should execute tho work; also rocommending tho immediate appointment of a highly qualified technical committee to advise as to th© merits of the various systems, and any changes necessary in th© future.

Mr Samuel replied that ho would gladly act on tho first recommendation. An agreement was contemplated in which tho contracting companies would bear tho whole risk. No payment would be mad© unless th© stations were in full working order. Tho technical committee proposed they ought to report within a limited time to prevent delays.

Mr Samuel added that ho had consulted tho High Commissioners. Ho was willing to send a Commission, cooperating with tho Admiralty, to select an Egyptian site within two months, and thenoo they would go to East Africa. Enquiries would also bo necessary in India and Singapore. Ho suggested, however, that th© schema should not bo deferred till th© mow distant sites had been selected.
