BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SUMNER
Th- Sumner Borough Council met last night. Present:—The Mayor (Mr H- J- Marriner). and Councillors T. B. Boulton, E. 0. Wood, J. J>. Lawrence, E- F. Dorrr.an, and ti. Brewer. It was decided to reconsider the scale of charges for the Town Hall and committee rooms. The Town Clerk reported that the repairs to reservoir had been completed at a cost of £2-3 lis 3d. The estimate, for the work waa £320 and the lowest tender was £366 los Cd. The secretary of the Canterbury General Labourers' Union wrote stating that tho Union desired to have some alterations mado ju .the existing award and asked that they be met in conference with a view to arriving at a satisfactory agreement. The Town Clerk was instructed to attend the conference and ask for exemption for the Council. A petition was received asking that Clark street should be formed. It was decided to reply stating that owing to tho amount of work at present in hand the request could not bo acceded to until after March.
