TIMARU.
(press association telegram.) TIMARU, January 14. The hottest day of the season was experienced to-day, and was caused by a nor'-wcst wind, which blew half a gale at times. A temperature of 92 degrees was recorded within the Post Office, and 95 degrees in the shade outdoors. Much vegetation was withered and scorched, and two or three grass fires were reported, but no damage was done. One was in the back yam of a big drapery shop. Another threatened the railway bridge at Washdyke, and men were called out, but the fire had been extinguished when they arrived. (special to "th_ press.") DUNEDIN, January 14. The weather was extremely hot her© to-day, the thermometer recording 92 degrees in the shade.
