RELIABILITY TRIAL.

' ,T 1 l! : ,. :N ' orth Canterbury M.C.C'S three day reliability trial commenced yesterday twenty entrants competing.- The first day's course was approximately 130 miles, and was from t-nristchurch to Hanmer, via Woodond Ra,ngiora, East Oxford, Ashley, and Glentui Gorges, Leithfield, and on to Hanmer. Thero was a control instituted at Amberley, where a stop of one hour was made, and the time allowed for the journey was seven hours, exc 'HJive of the times in the control. The competitors assembled at Mr J. H. Suckling's garage in Worcester 6treet, yesterday morning, and at 8 o'clock were dispatched in batches of three, each man being supplied with a noto-book in which he was to note down any stops on the part of his companions. Tho folJowing are tho names of the men and machines:—G. B. Brown (Tnuinph), H. Jones (King- Dick), J. Suckling (Rover), M. Cordery (Singer), H. E. Douglas (Triumph), G. C. O'Callaghan (Zenith), B. Stace (Singer), F. Haworth (Triumph), W. Clarke (Rover). C. Bonnhigton (Triumph), T. Kingsford (Rover), K. D. Palmer (Zenith 6 h-p.), A. C Pinwell (Singer), P. Lcgg (Rover), W. W. Isitt (Zenith), H. Jennings (King Dick 5 h.p.), J. Joyce (Hover), C. Moffatt (Triumph), T. Bullock (King Dick), and J. Cade (Rover). It will be ©can that only five makes of motor cycles out of the many on" tho market aro represented. With the exception of R. D. Palmer's 6 h.p. Zenith, and H. Jennings's all the competing machines were of 3J h.p. nominal, and practically all were provided with a clutch or change-speod gear of some description. To-day the competition will leave Hanmer about 8 o'clock, and proceed to Cheviot by way of Waikari, Scargill, Tipapa, Domett. An hour's check at IfcKcnzie (Cheviot) wiH be followed by tho run home to Christchurch by the Omihi Valley and Waipara. The time allowed for the journey is 8 hours, so the men should arrive hero about S o'clock this afternoon. *• i

To-morrow the rout© is to Akaroa and baclc via Tai Tapu, the time allowed each waybeing: 3 hours. There will be a two hours' control at Akaroa, and the petrol consumption test will be held on the way coming' back.
