AUSTRALIAN BUTTER
ITS USES IN ENGLAND. SIR GEO. REID'S REPORT. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, December 23. Sir Geo. Reid's report on the Australian butter trade in England, was tabled in the House of Representatives. It shows that the conditions are very unsatisfactory, and that unless the unscrupulous practices which are universally followed are checked, tho result will bo permanent injury to tho trade. A largo quantity of Australian butter is used to rescue, at a big profit, inferior stuff manufactured in Great Britain. Fifty per cent, more is used for blending purposes, and tho balance is disposed of under names approved by salesmen. Tho report urges tho necessity of a sound system of trade-marking, similar to that of New Zealand and other countries. While other butters aro well known, he does not believo 20 per cent, of tho people of Britain are aware that Australian butter is purchascablo.
