AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY.
United Press Association—By Electric Toicff: aph—Copyright. HOBART. November 23. A wireless message says that the Aurora has left tho Macquarie Islands and is dtio here on December 15th. She afterwards returns to bring back the expedition. An important discovery was m.ido during tho voyage down, tending to confirm tho theory of a former land connection between Tasmania and Antarctica. When two hundred miles south, soundings showed a rocky ridgo at a depth of 700 fathoms, extending almost duo north and south. Tho present .charts- show a depth of 1500 to 2000 fathoms over this area. Possibly Captain Diedrichon, a Norwegian whaler at present in Now Zealand, will superintend the- Aurora's I whaling operations.
