Dr. Crossley, Bishop of Auckland, is taking a brief rest at Geraldine, where ho is staying with the Rev. J. Knox Barklio.

A cable message received yesterday from Frcmantle states that Bishop Julius and Mrs Julius are passengers by the Orama from England. ■Mr W r . E. Barton, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Rangiora, returned yesterday after a period of leave which enabled him to re-visit Great Britain. Mr Henry Worrall, accountant to Messrs D. H. Brown\nd Son, was last night made tho recipient of a case of carvers from the firm and his fellow employees on. tho occasion of his approaching marriage. Mr M. Hannan has been elected chairman of the Grey County Council, and Mr Joseph Grimmond chairman or' the Westland' County Council. .''.■.' The report of the Appointments Committee of tho North Canterbury Education Board, adopted yesterday morning, recommended the following appointments: Mr T. Douds, to be headmaster at Kaiapoi, and Miss R. H. Satchel! to bo assistant mistress at Lp Bon's Bay. The following resignations had been received:—Mr F. J. Mottram, Christchurch East, Miss A. Dunn, Sefton; Mr A. H. Kirk, and Mr A. T. Closs, Woolston, and Miss E. Wardlo, Woolston. Tho death of Mr James Henderson last week, from injuries received in a motor-car accident, was referred to at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Charitable , Aid Board. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr Henderson, expressing appreciation of his services, was carried. At the meeting of the North Canterbury Executive of tha Farmers' Union yesterday, the chairman, Mr G. Sheat, referred to tho death of Mr Henderson, who. he said, had been vice-president of tho Dunsandel branch, and had been associated with the Farmers' Union since its inception. A expressing sympathy with Mrs Henderson and family, was carried in silence.
