WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD.

ST. PATRICK'S COLLEGE AND STATE SCHOLARSHIPS. (-BESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, November 26. At tho meeting of tho Wellington Education Board to-day, the Rev. Dr. Kennedy, rector of St. Patrick's Collego, wrote in reference to the approval by the Board of St. Patrick's College as a secondary school in which Education Board and Junior National scholarships might bo held.

Tho Chairman of tho Board (Mr R. Lee) said that tho matter was a very important one, and ho would move, "That as this Education Board is administering a State secular system ot education, and as free places and scholarships wero awarded irrespective of religious beliefs, and in this education district are now tenable in two Wellington Colleges (one for boys and ono for girls), and in a technical school and district High Schools, non-sectarian in their teaching, and wholly or in part built and largely maintained by tho State, this Education Board would not be justified in allowing scholarshipholders to attend sectarian-colleges." Mr Aitken: That is a notice of motion.
