Such an opportunity to see 4 some of tho best and fastest runners will ....be afforded the ppblio of .Christehurch on Anniversary Day (December 16th) when a modified Marathon ia to be run in .conjunction with the Lancaster Park Fete—that congregation of novel and attractivo events promoted- for tho purpose of clearing off the debt on that popular public resort-, Lancaster Park. The Modified Marathon will be almost as severe a test' 7 6f,the capabilities of tho .competitors,' who will all bo amateur -unnersy as if the course were' the customary distance, and the crowds which will be on Lancaster Park on the deciding day shall "witness a close and an exciting conclusion as the runners finish by going once' round tho course after covering the route specified from, the foot of the Port Hills to the Park. . Tho entries close on December sth, with the Secretary, Mr E. Nordon, and as the trophies offered are valuable ones; thero is little doubt that-very manywill endeavour to bo the first to'breast tho tape. Another athletic event that will be - keenly contested will he the 440 yards Ladies' Bracelet for Amateurs, and the Fancy Dress Cricket match is sure to attract the internist 'of large numbers. Visitors to the Fete will, find numerous other events provided that will appeal to everyone.
