THE TREASURY.

MR POYNTON'S PROBABLE RETIREMENT. terser--, to "tub -hess.") WELLINGTON, November 26. It is practically certain now that Mr Pomtoa will retire from his position as Secretary to tho Treasury owing to illhealth.

Tho "Post" to-night says that the published rumour that Mr Poynton has handod in his "resignation" is not correct. The information I have already sent you was quito authentic. Mr Poynton's medical adviser had already stated that his health was not good enough to permit-of his remaining in tho position, but the Government, beforo accepting his resignation, had to arrange for an examination (in terms of tho Act) by a Board consisting of two other medical men.
