AMATEUR ATHLETICS AND LANCASTER PARK.
TO THE EDITOR 0» "THK P8P.88." Sir,—,_!}' attention has been called to a letter appearing in your, issue of the 25th inst., wherein Mr F,*Wilding, president of the Lancaster Park Board of Control, complains of tho antagonism shown by athletic bodies towaid tho Park authorities. This, I feel sure, has no foundation a_ regards the amateur athletic hodies in this city. In fact, the relations existing between the clubs and Lancaster Park'hare at all times been cordial, further proof of which is in evidence at present by the very generous manner in which the Fete Committee is catering for I amateur runners by . providing a Marathon race, with prices amounting to 16 guineas, and a 440 yds flat race, also with liberal prizes. Mr Wilding will, no doubt, recognise that antagonism is not-existent when he sees tho war in which the amateurs will appreciate the sport provided for them by the.Fete Committee on December 16th. I am willing to wager that entries will be received from all over New Zealand for these races, and certainly from the Christchurch runners in scores.— Yours, etc., OSCAR W. B. ANDERSON. Hon. secretary, Canterbury Centre, New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
