WAIAU RAILWAY LEAGUE.
TO THE KDITOR OF "THE PRES3." S!r -—I see, according to "Canterbury," in your issue of November'l9th, the Waiau Railway League is taken to task for .presuming to'express a hope that the Hon. Mr Allen's mission to London in regard to New Zealand finances, might meet with success, bmce the laying of our line of rails to \vaiau is now only a matter of finance, I think the League might fairly be excused a parting reminder. Your correspondent, who would, doubtless, have hailed with satisfaction any kudos bestowed on tho lato Government, takes the opportunity of pronouncing judgment on tho present Ministry, whose, deeds will be, according to *'Canterbur}'," in oblivion, whilst the memory of his own particular fancy, remains still fresh and green. I grant, if tho colossal undertakings where our money has gone, instead of providing "Canterbury" and his like -with roads and rail in tho back-blocks, there is something in his contention. He might however, havo refrained from risking his prophetic opinion until the electors of New Zealand reverse their present unmistakeahle decision that a change in the administration of this fair land was badly needed when it'came—all honour to Mr Massey and his colleagues in their uphill fight. I don't know what 'Canterbury" thinks about the matter, after waiting ten years or so for a railway, we only got a promise in the dying hours of tho late Government, and it is excusable if we' now look to the present Government to pat an end to our ten years' strenuous efforts to get rail connection with civilisation. Y<jurs, etc.,
