A COSTLY JOKE.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, November 26. Dr. McArthur, S.M., gave judgment to-day in what is known as the "telegraphic joke" case. James Godwin, wool and skin buyer, sued Davidson and Co., exporters,"for £10 ; damages alleged to have been incurred through acting on a telegram received from a member of the defendants' staff. The person who sent it said he did so as a joke. The Magistrate said he was not satisfied with the explanation, and gave judgment for the full amount with costs.
