BOWLING.

TOURING TEAM v. CHRISTCHORCH. The Southern bowlers who have been touring the North Island played a test match with a team of Christehurch bowlers selected from tho various city and suburban clubs yesterday afternoon. The Canterbury g reen hod been placed at the disposal of the Christchurch Centre, and the appearance of the green spoke volumes a« to the care and attention that had been bestowed upon it. Eight rinks were engaged, and play commenced shortly after 2.i0 p.m. Mr N. Young, vice-president of the Christcaiirch Centre, welcomed the tourists, and congratulated them on their successful tour. ilr C. Cheers were given, and tho team sang an original -Bowlers' Song" they have sung on the tour. At the close of the match. Mr M. F. Barnett ca.led upon Mr Chas. Payne to mako a presentation to Mr C. Russell Smith, which he aid in a happy ___ humorous Fay. He stated that Mr Smith had proved a tower of strength as secretary, which position he bad filled to the utmost satisfaction of all members of the team. The presentation was mado on behalf of the ladies, for whoso comfort Mr Smith had spared no pains. Mr Smith suitably responded. Then the oldest member of tho team, Mr John White, of Dunedin, presented Mrs M. F. Barnctt with a present, also from the ladies, for which Mr M. F. Barnctt responded. Tho team then gave a song, and finished up with a haka. Tho game ended in a close fini?h, 192 to 131 in favour of the touring team. A highly enjoyable evening was spent, and a largo number were present. Among tho toasts propored were "The South Island Touring Team" Rtid the "'New Zealand Bowling Association. Instrumental items given by Mc.ars Cox, Rowo and Johnston wero much appreciated, and Messrs Johnston, Rowe, R. J. Hobbs and H. S. Hobbs contributed vocal items.
