QUESTION OF CENSORSHIP. ATTITUDE oF~crry COUNCIL. Tho matter of tho censorebip of picture shows camo beforo tha City Council at tbo meeting last night.
Tho St. Albans Ladies' Guild wroto urging that picture shows should bo subject to strict censorship.
Cr. Miller considered that somo censorship -should bo established for p»* turos were shown which wore not suitable for children.
Cr. Otley said that definite charges should bo m*do by tho writers. Cr. Burgoyno questioned whether tho Council had any right to effect any censorship. As far as ho was concerned, ho had novcr socn anything objeo*. tionablo at tho pictures. Cr. Taylor agreed that tlio Council should hesitato beforo assuming the * functions of a-censor. Ho had seen' littlo to complain of at the pictures. and bo thought the matter might well bo loft to the good sense of tho people. It was decided to refer tbo letter to the By-laws Committeo.
