Tho exhibit of dairy produce, as was to be expected in view of tho excellent and favourable season experienced in Canterbury, was an exceptionally fino one. Tho butter, both factory and farmers', was of a nice rich colour, and, in quality, was of tho best. In the factory butter classes the Canterbury Central Co-operativo Dairy Company, Ltd., bore off tho first prizes for fresh butter for table use, mado from pasteurised milk, for butter for export, and for factory-made butter mado up in pats. 'Iho Tai Tapu Company scored two seconds for fresu butter mado from pasteurised mitk and for factory-made buttor made up in pats. The other prize-taker in the factory-made classes | .was tho Canterbury Dairy Company, which scored a second prize for two boxes of butter for export. Tho competition in these classes was confined to the three companies named, in tho farmers' butter classes thexo was good competition, entries having been received from different parts ot Canterbury. The principal prize-taker was Miss Agnes McDowell, Wakanui, whoso exhibits were excellent in quality and appropriately = displayed. Miss McDowell carried off first and second prizes for fresh butter (not separated) for tabic use, for table use (separated), and for table use in rolls. Mr John Beatty, Coalgate, secured third prizo for fresh butter, not separated; Mrs J. Fleming, Balcairn, a similar award for separated, tnblo butter; and Mrs W. Syme, Kimberlcy. secured third prizo for table butter in rolls. In the class for table butter in rolls mado upon farms not exceeding 000 acres, tho'first prize was awarded Miss Ruby Busch, Aniberley; the second to Mr A. Dixon, Tinwald: and the third to Mrs J. Fussell, Ataahua. In the class for* fancy butter there were only two competitors, and the designs exhibited wore distinctly artistic. First and second prizes were awarded Miss C. Belcher, .Waitaki South, for exhibits in tho form of an anchor and of a heart.

In the classes for cheese there was not very much competition, but the cheese shown was excellent in appearance. Tho Le Bon's Bay Dairy Factory Company took tho £ret prizo for factory-made cheese fit for export, the only other competitor being the Okain's Bay Co-operative Factory. - In tho classes open to factories and farmers none of tho companies competed, and Mr James Wright, French Farm,, was awarded "first, and Mrs S. Donovan, French Farm, second, for not less than 561b in ono or more cheeses. Mrs Donovan also secured first for two cream cheeses, but in this class there was no other competitor. The Canterbury Central Co-operative Dairy Company had : for exhibition only, a very fine display of soft cheeses, which was attractively got up, and which was inspected with much' enjoyment by the visitors who- passed through tho produce shed.

There was fairly good competition in egg classes, and the'exhibits wero of a highly creditable character. For hens' eggs (white) the first prize went to Miss Mary Sheate, Riccarton; MrsH. Roper, Kirwee, secured second; Master Harold Locke, Lower Riccarton, received a v.h.c.; Miss Vera Dunlop, Chaneys, a h.c.; and Mr A. E. Chapman, Sydenham, c. Tho first prizo tor hens' eggs (tinted), was- aivarded-Mrs Archio McLachlan, Doyleston; and Mrs M. Bell, Halswell, and Miss Vera Dunlop, Chaneys, wero equal second.

In tho dressed poultry section tho competition was not'great; only two entries having been received in the two classes. In both classes tho first prizes wero awarded to -Mrs E. Wilkinson, Woolston, for ono pair each of ducks and fowls.

CURED AND PRESERVED MEATS,

In this -section thero was. gocd competition, and the hams and bacon shown ] were excellent in quality and appear-1 ance. Kincaids, Ltd., "were tho pr:ncij>ai prize-takers, and secured first and second for smoked hams, first for unemoked hamsj the New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Association securing second; tho Farmers' Co-op. secured first for two flitches of smoked bacon, Kincaids, Ltd., securing second; for unsmoked bacon, Kinoaids, Ltd., were awarded first, and the Farmers' Co-op. second; for two rolls of unsmoked bacon, Kincaids, Ltd., wero awarded first and second prizes. In the farmers' classes, Mrs A. Cox (Styx) secured second prizo for ono ham and one flitch smoked, and was awarded a similiu* prize in the unsinokcd class. In tho last-mentioned class, Mr F. Pierson (Brookside) was awarded first prize.
