A LAWYER IN TROUBLE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) "WELLINGTON, July 15. The Court of. Appeal, consisting of the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Williams, Air Just'ico Edwards. Mr Justice Cooper, and Mr Justice Chapman, sat this morning to hear tho application of tho Wellington District Law Society for an order to strike Jno. G. O. Stevens, of Otaki. off the roll of solicitors, upon the "round of unprofessional conduct in respect to the following matter:—On Oct. 24,1910, whilo acting ostensibly for a native woman, but really in the interests of one S. East, he applied to the Public Trustee for a loan to the nativo of £1000 upon security of certain land belonging to her, representing that tho money was required for the purpose of improving the land. By means of such representation Stevens induced tho Trustee to grant the loan, whereas the money was intended for the purcbaso of a share in an invention for indicating the position of sunken vessels, in which Stevens and others were interested. It is also alleged that Stevens induced the native to pay £800 onb of tho loan for a share in tho i patent. The case had not concluded when tho . Court roso for the day. •
