WAIMAIRI COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Waimairi County Council was held last night. Present: —Messrs "W. J. Walter (in tho chair), W. Nicholls, R. O. Duncan. T. Hannah, R. W. Hawke, S. Bullock, and F. Sisson.

• Mr R. O. Duncan moved:—"That tho Council should express its disapproval of tho proposed amalgamation of part of the Waimairi County with the city." The motion was carried, and Messrs S. A. Staples and T. Hannah wero appointed as the Council's delegates to the conference of local bodies' delegates to bo held in the City Council Chambers on July 24th, to consider the question. A letter was received from the secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, declining tho. Council's offer to sell the Council Chambers for the Department's new Papanui post office. A request from St. Stephen's Vestry for tHe erection of a lamp at the corner of Warden street and Hill's road was received, and referred to Messrs Palk and Walter, and to the Council's engineer, to report. : It was decided that the work of channelling at Belfast should he commenced early, in Saptember. Tho engineer reported that on ] Howard street, Belfast, three lots of . pipes had been put across tho road at! cross fences. Two more rows would be needed. The culvert at the inter-sec-tion of Factory and North roads was in a rotten condition, and the piping of the drain would have to be put in hand at once.
