"'That bpinion fully endorsed the action taken by the secretary of the Board. /'Certain officers in the Post and Telegraph Department were granted permission to count their former, service in other;.departments, tho service having l>een continuous. A ease was reported to the Iloard of an officer who had served in tho Post and Telegraph Department and had heen retired as medically..unfit, and who was now carrying on business, which appeared to point to,the fact that the officer had. regained' his health. It was decided that tho person in question should be required to submit himself for medical re-examination. Tho secretary brought beforo tho Board tho question of officers being retired as medically unfit and the process required by tho Act to enable these cases to como beforo tho Board. A new method was proposed and adopted, by which departments -will require to satisfy the Board that adequate steps have heen taken to prove that persons proposed to be so retired are in such a condition of health as to be entitled to the benefits of the Act. Tho secretary informed the Board that the amount at credit of the fund in tho hands of tho Public Trustee and in the Post Office on 30th Jnne. 1912, was. £387,579. The,; total of retiring'allowances and annuities to widows and children oassed by the Board aro as . follows: —Ordinary, £1887; medically .unfit,. £345.; ten widows and fourteen children, £362; total £2595.
