LEESTON.
(Before Messrs John Ronnie and John Harnett, J.V.'s.) James O'Brien and Allan Laniont were charged with having provoked a breach of tho peace at Leeston, and were fined 10*> each, with costs. Samuel Johnston was charged with giving an unstamped receipt. He pleaded guilty, but stated that" the sale being a cash ono he had quite overlooked stamping the receipt. A fine of 5s was inflated, tlio Bench • remarking that tho offence had not been intentionally committed. Robert Youn_; was fined 2s 6d on two charges of failing to send.his children to school. A similar charge against William Knight was dismissed, the defendant proving the child was over age. Alexander Rallo, of. Doyleston, claimed a sum of £10 from A. Daly, commercial traveller, of Christchurch. being tho value of a dog alleged to have been killed by defendant's motor car. After hearing lengthy evidence, judgment was given for plaintiff for £7 and costs. Leave to appeal was granted.
