(Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) COUNCIL CASES.

In the cases of tho City Council v. Jessio Anderson and John Gowper, [ orders were made that buildings be pulled down, tho orders to bo suspended iv each case tor a month. A liko case, City Council v. Georgo 1\ Kissell, was adjourned for a mouth. CRUELTY TO A HORSE. Archibald Braid appeared on a charge of cruelty to a horso. Defendant's father said ho had no control over him whatever. His Worship said defendant would bo convicted, and sentenced to ono . mouth's imprisonment, and ho would recommend the Governor to send tho boy to an industrial school. ADJOURNED. A charge against George Frederick Robinson, of sending a document likely to cause belief in its legal operation, was adjourned till next Friday. (Before Messrs W. Minson and H. A. Bruce, J.t'.'s.) DRUNKENNESS. Ono first offender tor drunkenness was lined os and costs, iv default 24 hours' imprisonment. Georgo Birnie Moore and Charles O'Malley were each lined 10s, m deiauit 4a bours' imprisonment, for a like offence. BY-LAW BREACHES. For cycling on tho footpath, William Keys, John Fergusson, Arthur Townsheud, hklward Bradbury, and Ernest Wright were each need 7s and costs. For riding a motor-cyclo on a cyclo track, Henry Starkio was fined 15s and costs. James Leonard Martin, for , 'cling at night without a light, was fined 7s and costs. (Stanley Robinson had a.penalty of 7s and costs imposed on him for rising a motor-cyclo without a registered number attached. On charges of leaving a vehicle unattended, William Hayward and Arthur Sawtell wero each fined 10s and costs. For allowing horses to wander, Albort Porter, Edwin C. Berry, and Arthur Mooro were each fined 10s and costs.

Peter Jackson, charged with driving loose cattle along the street during prohibited hours, was fined 7s. For driving a motor-cyclo too fast over a crossing, James Nuttall was lined 10s.

On a charge, of allowing calves to wander, John O Sullivan was fined 2s Gd, without costs.

LYTTELTON

(Before Messrs W. C. Clcary, J.P, and F. W. Anderson, J.P.), DRUNKENNESS. A first offender, who pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, was convicted and fined 5s and costs, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Georgo Smith was charged with drunkenness, his third offence within the past six months. He pleaded guilty and was fined forty shillings and costs, in default 14 days' imprisonment. DESERTION. Victor Anderson.pleaded not guilty to a charge of haying-deserted from the Norwegian barque Don, on July 4th. Captain Jensen said that accused, who had joined the vessel in Lyttelton was a good cook, but was given to going ashoro too much. On Thursday, morning, ho met him coming off the ship with his box and his clothes packed, and ho said he was not going away on tho ship. ■ Accused said the captain had promised to pay him off if he got a man in his place, but had later refused.to do so. Captain Jensen said that the substitute procured by accused, did not suitJiim, and. ho had therefore declined to pay Anderson off. Accused was convicted arid ordered to- pay .costs, and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, and ordered to be put on board tho ship when she was ready to..'snil. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. James JVluir, charged with having \ised obscene language in" Canterbury street on Saturday night, said he had been drunk, and did not remember anything. Constable Richardson said that accused was drunk, and was in a fighting mood, and had made use of ve!ry bnd language. Tho Bench 6ftid that tho uso of obscene language in Lyttelton streets was far too common, and they were determined to put it down. Accused was convicted and fined £5, in default three months' imprisonment. -

ASHBURTON.'

(Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) William Clark was fined 10s and costs for driving a waggon across tho Ashburtoh traffic bridge at night without a l'ght. David McCrinnor was fined 40s, and 7s costs, for driving a traction engine in a rut. John McLauchlan, jun., and John McLauchlan, sen., were each fined 20s, and 7s costs, for driving a traction engine in a rut. Charles W.. Baker (Mr Kennedy), claimed from Gideon Scott, jun. (Mr Buchanan), £11 4s. Judgment was given for plaintiff with costs, £2 6s. In a case, George Harkness Buchanan v. Charles E. Currey, claim £44 13s, judgment was given for plaintiff by default, with costs, £2 4s. Robert Elliott (Mr Buchanan) claimed from Thomas Rainey (Mr Orbell) £6 Is Bd, balance of wages aliened to be due.for work art a threshing mill. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £o . 14s Sd. with costs £1 17s.
