PERSONAL ITEMS.
Dr. Usher, Mr W, Fraser, - M.P. (Wokatipu), and Mr H. Hayward arrived from Wellington yesterday. Mr W. Fraser, M.P., left for tho south yesterday. Arrivals in town yesterday include (Mr E. James (Wellington), Mr J. H. "VVitheford, Mr D: Nicoil (Auokland), Mr A. W. Rutherford (Brookdale), Mr R. A. Anderson (Invercargill), Mr T. R. Moran (Dunedin), Mr D. L. Patterson (Oamaru), Mr H. Franks (Amberley). Mr A. Newcomb (Auckland), and Mr R. Hudson (Dunedin). Mr H. Quane left for Auckland last evening. Messrs F. W. Grigg, S. H. Dobbin, W. Evans, and J. Lomas, and the Rev. Father Kit-bell were passengers for Wellington by tho Maori last night. 'Mr E. T. Lawn, who was for some years with Stewart Dawson and Co., Ltd.. Dunedin, and latterly of their Melbourne and Auckland branches, has been appointed to tho management of the firm's vChristchurch business. Major H. R. Potter, who was for some time stationed in the Canterbury military district, and nas been receiving training in India for tho past nine months, landed in Auckland on Friday last. The General Officer in Command has granted him a month's leave of absence as from the Gth inst.' Mr Henry Davis (Mayor) and Mr A. McClure (town clerk) have been appointed the Ashburton Borough Council's delegates to the Municipal Conference, which meets at Wellington in July. According to the Melbourne "Argus," the Brighton (Victoria) Congregatronal Church has "extended a call to the Rev. W. J. Closs, of Christchurch, New Zealand, who has filled the pulpit on several occa.**>ons eince the retirement of tho Rev. G. S, Brett."
