RAILWAY FARES.
The deputation also laid before tho Minister what they regarded as an unjust tariff in fares on the Christ-church-Lyttelton line. They stated that a first-class return fare between Lyttelton and Christchurch was Is 4d, whilst between Lytte'.ton and Opawa, a distance of four miles less, it was ,1s Gd, and between Woolston and Lyttelton, a distance of six miles less, the fare was the same as between Christc'hurch and Lytt-elton. The same existed with β-egard to second-class fares. The Minister pointed out the. object of the fare.s was to encourage' workers to live in the suburbs, but the deputation pointed out that tho trouble was not between Woolston or Opawa and Christchurch, but between Woolston or Opawa and Lyttelton. where the men had to work. The Minister recognised the anomaly, and said he would see to the mattetr.
