Mr John Burns, the president of the 'Local Government Board, was dealing at tho time with various sums of money, including tho Iloyal Sifts, and so to avoid clashing, Sir William consulted him ivith regard to the allocation. This accounts for a part of the money being soufc to tho Mayor of Limerick, as Mr Burns told tho High Commissioner that there was Very severe distress in that city due to tho coal strike, and that any nioney sent there would bo well spent. It also'ivafc Mt desirable to distribute the amounts in cash and allow the local committees to spend it to the best advantage. Consequently "Tho Press" fund was distributed as follows:— £ a. d.
