INVERGARGILL.
The mayoral contest passed off very quietly to-day. There were two candidates, Messrs W. B. Scandrett and A. Bain, and tho voting resulted in the return of the former by 756 votes, numbers being:—Scandrett 1959, and Bain 1203. "The Labour Party has nominated Mr M. J. Forde as a candidate for the Council vacancy caused by Mr Scnndrctt's elevation.
