One first offender was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. William Falloon was fined 10a. in default 43 hours' imprisonment. Pie had previously in the evening been turned out of the hotel for taking part .in a quarrel. Accused had afterwards apologised to informant for the language used. MAINTENANCE. Frederick Atkins was charged with failing to maintain his mother. After hearing evidence as to the means of the mother, the Magistrate ordered defendant to pay 3s a week towards her maintenance. INDUSTRIAL BREACHES. Edward Cowper Smith and Mrs R. A. Gadd. for having failed to close their shops at the prescribed hours, wero fined 5s each and costs.

Alfred John Stephens was charged with failing to account for the sum <t .€2O collected by him for Messrs W. Strange and Co. After hearing the evidence, the Magistrate inflicted a fine of £o on the accused, and ordered him to rcpnv the £20, in default two months' imprisonment. - VAGRANCY-. . Sehna Childs was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person in that she had no visible lawful .means of su;. art. ALLEGED FORGERY. James Bartley, anas James Fulton (Mr A. T. Donnelly) appeared and ipleaded not guilty to a charge of having, on or about April bth. forged a r'ltffue for £23 ou the National Bank of Nov Zealand, purporting to bo t.vsjr.od by one Wjilter Field, and with hav.ng caused one W. A. Tribe to act on it as it it were genuine. After evidence had been heard, the accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed accused in £200 and two sureties of £100 each.
