ATHLETIC UNION AND NORTH CANTERBURY CENTRE.
For sonic considerable time past the relations existing between the exccutivo of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union and the committee ol it.-.-North Canterbury Centre have been considerably strained, owing principally to the former, after holding an enquiry into the suspension of a local club by the latter, immediately removing the suspension, and at the same time censuring an official of the Centre. Since then the breach has been continually widening, until tho culminating point was reached last Saturday evening, when at a meeting of the various clubs a-iliutrd with the Centre, the chairman of the Union (YUr J. Kennedy) announced that he had come to the conclusion that the only effective way to remove the trouble, and so bring about a better understanding between the various sports clubs nnd the Union, would be to suspend the Centre's executive, and Mich a course would be adopted.
After a general discussion, during which .several or the delegates expressed their club,-' entire accdrd with tho action of the Union in the matter, Mr J. K. Hates iChristchurch Cycling aud Motor Club) moved, and Mr J- Mealinu's (Kaiapoi Cycling Club) seconded— "That since hearing the chairman's statement that the executive of the Union has decided to suspend the North Canterbury Centre, it be a recommendation from this meeting of delegates of clubs in North Canterbury that the executive summon a meeting of delegates of such clubs with a viewto reconstruction of the North Canterbury Centre." This was carried, as was also a motion expressing confidence in tho Union's executive.
