METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB.

EASTER MEETING.

The weather conditions were not at all, inviting yesterday for the opening of the Now Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's E«ster Meeting, as, although no nun fell, it was cold and gloomy throughout- the day. The heavy downpour of Tuesday afternoon had seriously affected the track, which was in a very muddy state, and altogether against fast times. Tho attendance, under the conditions, was very good, and the totalisator turnover amounted to _1G,C21. Last year tho Meeting extended over threo days, and tho investments on the first day were £14,435, while, on tho second day, which corresponded to yesterday, the total was £15,031 10s. Thero was somo interesting racing during the day, but tho track conditions ovidently affected a number of Uio horses competing. Tho Ladies' Bracelet Handicap was notabio for the fact that it attracted a record field of thirty-one startors, but as a race it was disappointing, as tho majority of thoso taking port wero hopelessly out of it before half a mile had been covered. In tho principal race of tho day, the Easter Handicap, Princess Louiso was in front practically all tho way, and though Glendnlough, who is a full sister to D.in Patch, threatened trouble at ono stage, tho was outstayed at the finish. The International Handicap, a milo and A-quartor ruco, brought out a really liigh-class field, and it was responsible for the best performance of tho day, Emmehnc winning comfortably from semt-ch in 2miii 56 2-sth fee— time on such a track.
