SIR JOSEPH WARD.
WILL NOT LEAVE THE DOMINION,

WELLINGTON, April 2
At a gathering of the staff of the Treasury Department tlus afternoon, a presentation was made to Mr E. L. Mowbray, one- of the oldest servants of tho Treasury, who is retiring. Advantage was taken of the gathering to say good-bye to Sir Joseph Ward, and present him with an address, and also to welcome the new Minister of Finance, the Hon. A. M Mvers.
Addressing the officers of the Treasury, Sir Joseph Ward told them that they wero bound to .see him in the future somewhere. "I am not going out of Now Zealand," ho continued. "I want to make that clear, because some people have an idea that I am going to some other part of the world to make my permanent residence there. I am going to bo in tho public life of this country, 1 hope, for many years to come. There may bo a few people who would bo perhaps happier if they got rid of mc, but this is a free country, and wo can do as we like in our respective walks of life, so long as we obey the law—and I always do that. I bid you farewell, au revoir, out not good-bye."
