DISCISSION BY HARBOUR BOARD
ADJOURNED
The Caual report was further considered at the meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday, when the discussion was resumed, on the notice of motion given by the chairman, Mr H. Friedlander, seconded by Mr F. Horrell:—"That the Canai Commissioners be thanked for, their impartial and excellent report.: that the Board accepts the Commissioners' finding, except their recommendation vide- clause 145, pages -13 and 41, that this Board should, at its own expense, increase the railway yard area at Lyttelton; that the Commissioners' proposals for improving the facilities for coping with the increased trade at Lyttelton and Christchurch bo referred to the Harbour Improvement Committee, with powers to confer with other bodies interested, with a view to securing the suggested improvements and commencement thereof at an early date."
Mr Allison presented a.long typowritten statement, embodying his objections to the findings of the Commission, which was accepted by the Board as Mr Allison's speech on the subject. Mr C. Cook then moved the adjournment of the debate.
This was seconded by Mr Laurenson
Mr M. J. Miller pointed out that a conference of representatives of local bodies was to bo held on the 28th. and it would be better for the Board to finish its discussion before that date.
Mr It. Moore objected to the publication of a typewritten statement which members had not seen or heard. It. was placing the Board in au awkward position. Mr Colin Cook said the admission of the typewritten statement seemed to him unfair if the discussion was to be proceeded with then. After some discussion it was resolved to adjourn until-Thursday, March 28th, at 10 a.m.
