REFEREES' ASSOCIATION.
Tho annual general meeting of the Canterbury Iterorees , Association was held luet evening. Mr i±.,E. Middlestone presided, and there was a good attendance. Tho chairman gave an account of tho work done by the Association during the past season, and stated that only on three occasions tho appointed official failed to act. Nearly 3UO games had boen controlled by members. . .
Tho election of officers resulted in Mr HiddJestono being elected ohairman, Mr W. G. Garrard honorary secretary, and Messrs J. F. Peake, 0. Buchanan, and A. Hooper the executive. It was decided-to meet on the first Monday in each month. Mr F. T. Evans wrote resigning.hie membership after eixteon . years' service. In nis letter bo stated that howas of opiniou that footbali in Canterbury was as clean, if not cleaner, than in most centres, and that the members of tho Association could fairly claim most of tho credit. He urged members to.maintain their hifih standard of efficiency in controlling tho game. Ho thanked members and players for confidence placed in him in the past and regretted that he was compelled to resign. It was decided to accept the resignation with regret, and Mr Evans was unanimously eleqted a lifo member of the Association.
The New Zealand Referees' Association wrote statins that tho annual general and conference would bo held in Hastings on April sth. Thechairman was appointed to represent the Association at that meeting and ho was instructed to endeavour to have a triennial conference to bo held in Wellington. It was decided that in future the referee would not jrut the ball in tho scrummage. Several rulings on tho laws of the same were forwarded by the New Zealand Referees' Association. A recommendation that the Referees' Association should bo allowed to appoint officials for competition games was lost.
