OXFORD
The conservation and improvement of the Ashley Gorge Domain is securing the earnest attention of tho Domain Board. A few days ago several members of the Board together with the Clerk, Mr R. H. Gainsford, and Messrs H. T. Cooper and L. Watson made, an inspection of the grounds with a view to their improvement. It was noted that the greatest destruction of the trees was when there was most disturbance by horses. It was decided to recommend the Board to fence in the birch grove, giving access thereto by turnstiles; to plant a belt of trees along tho north side of the grounds, and to erect horse lines. These, with minor improvements, it is hoped will be of great benefit to picnickers at this popular resort, and will tend to tho preservation of its scenic attraction. It is further recommended that it bo a regulation that no trees bo interfered with, and that honorary rangers be appointed to safeguard the property. A telenhono bureau is to bo opened shortly at East Oxford, whero twclvo of tho* business people havo become subscribers. An improvement, which waa much needed, has at last been made in widening tho approach at tho East Oxford railway station.
