TIMARU.
A moderate amount of business was done on the local markets during the past week. Farmers aro not offering their grain freely yet, as a good many of them aro still too busy harvesting it, and those who have it in stack find it necessary to leave it there for some weeks to get it into condition. Some sales of old wheat have been made at 3s 0d f.0.b., while new wheat has changed hands at 3s 4d and 3s ojd, on trucks, Timaru. Word was received in Timaru on Friday that some Auckland merchants have placed an order for 1000 tons of Australian flour in Melbourne, and that this will bo taken to Auckland in boats owned by Auckland people, the freight being lower than that charged by the Union Company to take cargoes from southern ports of New Zealand to Auckland. The price paid for tho flour is said to be £7 Hβ 3d f.o.b. There is a fair enquiry for good oats, and a line of A grade Gartons was sold in Timnru on Friday at 2s delivered Timaru. Other lines have been sold at Is 10d and Is lid, according to kind and condition. Oatsheaf chafi is not offering in any quantity, and is commanding £'3 to £3 os ncr ton. Potatoes aro very slow of sale at £2 os per ton f.o.b.
