JOTTINGS FOR FARMERS.

Harvesting is completed in tho Waiau district tho fine warm weather experienced of late enabling farmers to complete their work. Threshing from tho stack is proceeding briskly. Tho corn is turning out well and good tallies aro being made. The Dalethorno clearing salo will bo held at the hom<.-stead to-morrow, when the well-known flock of merino and halfhrcd sheep w:ll bo sold by public auction. Special drags will meet tho morning train from Christchurch on arrival at Annat returning in time for tho evening train. The following entries havo been received for tho Canterbury A. and P. Association's Ram Fair, to bo held next Thursday and Friday:—Lincolns 61. English Lciccsters 2630. Border Leicester 512, Romney Marsh 81, Southdown 173. Shropshire S7B, Corriedale 407, Merino 4, Halfbrod 244, Ryeland 85; total 4579. The total number of entries for last year was 56-10. ' Farmers who wero in Invcrcargill on Raturd.iv all had the same story to tell: That the oats and grass crops aro seriously affected by tho wet weather. The rain of the last few days (telegraphs our correspondent) has justified pessimism in regard to the yield. In tho Dipcon district there are fields of oats, a large pronortion of which have beeomo blackened in tho etook owing to tho wet, while all over th o district tho grass crop has been damaged, which warrants the expectation that seed will be highly priced this soasou. The turnips in the Nightcaps district are looking anything but promising and the same remark applies to outer croijs. In the Mabel Bush district there are 80 acres of grass out on one farm and tho agriculturist is afraid of the consequences of tho treatment it has received from tho weather. Altogether tho outlook is not cheerful, and a farmer said on Saturday that it would tako him a season or two to recover his position. Tlie entries for the annual TVaian Show have closed with tho gratifying total of 1200, an increase of nearly 400 entries in comparison with tho previous year. Tho show will bo held at tho homestead of Highficld Station kindly lent for the occasion by Messrs Northcoto Bros., and tho committee have made overy effort to ensure its success. Exhibitors have also contributed in this respect by entering stock, which as regards quality, is a distinct advance upon tho previous year's exhibits.
