POSTLE BEATS 'DONALDSON
TWO WORLD'S RECORDS ESTABLISHED. (rSESS ASSOCIATION TELEOIUM.) AUCKLAND,. March 16. Tho St. Patrick's Day sports wore held in tho Domain to-day. In tho first of tho threb events between Postlo and Donaldson, tho 7oyds, Postlo shot ahead at tho start, and Donaldson, although ho mado a great effort, failed to overtake his opponent, who won by a yard and a-hali. Timo 7 l-sth sec. This heat was generally expected to go to Postlo, but tew were prenared to sco him win by a yard and a-half. Tho "blue streak" failed to hold him in the first 50yds, and although ho finished tho stronger. Postlo won nicely, fully maintaining Ms right to bo claßsed as tho fastest/ man in the world over the distance.
In the v second heat of tho match, over 150 yds, Donaldson was expected to turn the tables. The wind was blowing fairly strong against the runners. Postle straightening up first and settling to his work immediately, soon hai an advantage, and as they dashed past the 100 yards mark was leading by two yards. Donaldson made a great effort over the last fifty yards, and just seemed to catch Postle, and at the tape their feet seemed level, but Postle dashed at the tape, and ho got the verdict by from a foot to fifteen inches. Time 14 1-oth sec, -which equals Postle's world's record. In the final herjt, the 200 prds, the two men left tho mark together, Postle beginning quickest, and at 100 yards ho Ted by two yards. At 150 yards Donaldson ! bad reduced tho cap to a yard and a half, but could not make any further impression, Postle holding him over the last 50 yards, and getting the Vision by a yard and a half. Time lOsec—a world's record. The times were taken by experienced time-keepers, and the track was renn?asur«i after the races and found to be ouite correct.
